How to select a hydronic trench heater

Start with the installation and heat load

A hydronic trench heater is a water-fed convector recessed into the floor, with a grille at the finished floor level. It is also described as an in-floor convector or floor convector. SOODIA Hydronic Trench Convectors are intended for installations beside glazing where the heating equipment needs to fit into the floor rather than occupy a wall. This guide helps a project buyer prepare a selection brief; it does not replace a room heat-loss calculation or a model-specific drawing.

Compare three configurations

Natural Convection uses air movement through the heat exchanger without a fan. Fan-Assisted Heating uses a fan to support airflow; forced convection remains the technical term for that process. Heating and Cooling is a separate configuration for a compatible water system. Compare the relevant model tables under the same supply-water, return-water and room-temperature conditions. A longer casing alone does not establish the required output, and an output quoted at one temperature condition should not be reused at another.

Check the available floor recess

Record the available length, width and depth together with the finished floor level. Include pipe-entry positions and access for valves, vents and maintenance. For a fan-equipped model, identify the available power supply and the intended control arrangement. For cooling, ask for the selected unit’s installation and moisture-management requirements before construction is fixed. The installation guide below explains which drawings to prepare.

Prepare a comparable quotation request

Send the required heat output for each location, design water temperatures, room temperature, recess drawing and quantity. Mark whether a standard model fits or a custom length is needed. SOODIA can review the configuration against the project brief and identify the applicable technical document. Confirm the model, operating conditions and installation arrangement together before approving an order. For airport terminals and hotel projects, also coordinate the equipment with glazing, floor finishes and the building-services layout.
